About Us. Samish Bay Soaps (888) 756-2450

Samish Bay Soaps & Scents is our creation. It all began with my love for aromatherapy soap. John was selling natural foods at the time and would pick up soaps here and there to bring home to me. A friend took a class on soapmaking and came home to share her knowledge with me. The rest is history. I jokingly call it, “A hobby gone awry,” but we both feel it was more of discovering a passion. We officially became a business in 1996. We chose the name Samish Bay because we love the natural beauty in Bellingham and the surrounding areas and wanted to somehow represent it. So, Samish Bay was born.

Our first retail account was here in Bellingham. We delivered the soap and went back later that day. We were so excited to see our first bar of soap sell! Once we left the store, we were high-fiving each other with smiles from ear to ear. Still to this day, we get excited to see someone with a bar of our soap in their shopping cart. It’s awesome to see people looking at our soaps, smelling them, enjoying them … that’s what it’s all about for us!

We take great pride in the fact that all of our products contain the purest ingredients. We have no colors or artificial ingredients in any of our soaps, and use only pure essential oils. I create and pour every single batch of soap. Next, each bar is hand cut by John. Finally, both of us package the soap. No mass production here. We are the whole company!

Our whole premise to having a small business was so when the time came to start a family, I would be able to have my own creative outlet and job with flexible hours so I could focus on being a Mom, my lifetime dream. That dream became a reality when our daughter Rachel was born. We are very grateful for the people who have supported our business (retailers and customers alike).
